================================================================
I actually bought this on the strength of hearing The Pointer Sisters funk bomb version of Lee Dorsey's 'Yes We Can'.
I was a mite surprised to discover that they had a sideline as an Andrews Sisters style 1940s girl group. You know 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B' type stuff but with a funky edge. You certainly wouldn't expect anything so esoteric if you've heard their 80s output.
The second record is more familiar funk/soul territory including the aforementioned 'Yes We Can' and equally groovesome 'Going Down Slowly'. It's worth picking up for those two tracks alone. But I suspect the real way to hear the Sisters early stuff is to pick up their original albums where the stylistic shifts might make more sense. Worth a punt though - certainly stimulated my interest.
