A great improvement over the disappointment of Midnight at the Lost and Found and his best album of the 80s after Dead Ringer. Sure the sound is dated but strong 80s power arena Rock with no-apologies synth-action and those 80s drums. Yet if I had listened to this in the 80s, this would stand up as some fucking awesome bad-ass Rock music! Just look at that cover already!
Good that he gives Jim Steinman's "Surf's Up" the treatment it deserves, definitely the highlight and makes Steinman's solo version obsolete and there have never been more awesome sexual metaphors than on this song. The version of Jim Steinman's Fire Inc.'s "Nowhere Fast" disappoints a bit though. The title track is a strong, energetic bad-ass rocker fitting well with the rest of the Meat Loaf-mythology. The other tracks are pretty strong too with more rockers and pathos-filled ballads that makes Meat Loaf fans hungry. They will not be disappointed by this album full of memorable Arena-Rock action!
